Ben Shelton has sensationally reached the final of the BMW Open by Bitpanda. Very few people would have expected this. The American has played just 23 matches on clay in his career, while his opponent, Francisco Cerundolo, is a real clay court specialist. After a clear first set (2:6), the 22-year-old turned the match around (7:6, 6:4). "The conditions in Munich were difficult today. This is of course a great win. I thank the crowd for their support," said the number two seeded American. The key to victory in the deciding set: Shelton won 75 per cent of the points when the first serve came and returned strongly.
