First singles title on the tour
7:5, 6:3 against Taylor Fritz
Jan-Lennard Struff is the winner of the BMW Open 2024! It is his first singles title on the tour. A success that the 33-year-old has been waiting a long time for: "I've worked hard for this title, so it's even better that I won it in Germany, it means a lot to me - thank you for your support," said the Warstein native at the award ceremony.
In three-degree temperatures and constant rain, "Struffi" went full throttle right from the start on the sold-out centre court. It quickly became clear that he didn't want to miss out on this opportunity after losing the 2021 final in Munich. Taylor Fritz, himself known for his hard shots, was almost constantly on the defensive. After 1:19 hours it was 7:5, 6:3 for the German. He then accepted the trophy, donned the winning leather trousers and was presented with the winning car: the BMW i5 M60.
Struff had many words of praise for the BMW Open. "I've been here for the 13th time, it's a fantastic tournament, everything fits from top to bottom - the upgrade to the 500 tournament is fully deserved, I'm already looking forward to coming back."
In the doubles, Yuki Bhambri and Albano Olivetti beat Andreas Mies and Jan-Lennard Struff 7:6(6), 7:6(5).
